Many people have a lot of questions about the buggy whip shot because, to be honest, most coaches do not know how to teach it. I am a big believe in the buggy whip shot. I also believe you can use it even with an eastern forehand grip. The only difference will be how the strings are facing at the finish. I know professional player like Pete Sampras don t have extreme western grips like Rafael Nadal, but they still hit the buggy whip shot too. With an easter forehand grip, the strings that make contact with the ball are going to face more towards the side fence of your non dominant side. When I was hitting this buggy whip shot, I realized that with an eastern forehand grip, I was having to take some off of it and try and hook around the ball. Always make sure not to wrap your arm behind your head like Sharapova does. Always keep your hand in front of your face on the buggy whip shot. I recommend using the buggy whip finish even if you have an eastern forehand grip.
