Fire steel: Try this simple, effective Ferro Rod survival firemaking method

There is no foolproof survival firemaking method. But this technique, using cotton balls and petroleum jelly is the closest I ve found. When combined with a piece of aluminum foil and a Ferrocerium (or flint or magnesium stick,) this method is very, very reliable.
