http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com http://tractionerag.com There's nothing like the sound of a two stroke in the powerband. But it's not all crazy hits of power, your two stroke power band is extremely tunable so this guide will show you how to tune your two stroke to suit the sort of riding you do. First up, slow technical riding because this is our favourite. You want a very linear powerband for this sort of riding - plenty of low down grunt and no sudden burst of power in the mid range. A gentle power band is great when it's hard to get grip. Similar to a trials bike, the linear powerband offers power down low to resist stalling, and no rapid hit that could break traction in slippery terrain. Even with the correct powerband tuning, you can see how easy it is to spin the rear wheel and lose drive on these slippery logs. Here's a quick guide to choosing your power band. The blue powerband is for four strokes. It actually feels loose and sloppy like diarrhoea. And it's not just the feel, it sounds like a wet fart. Noisy but gutless, it's a power band for a special breed of person that nobody wants to hang around anyway. So let's stick with real motorbikes - the two strokes. The power band of an internal combustion engine or electric motor is the range of operating speeds under which the engine or motor is able to operate most efficiently. While most engines and motors have a large range of operating speeds, the powerband is usually a much smaller range of engine speed, only half or less of the total engine speed range and specifically, power band is the range of RPM around peak power output. Enough said. Next is how to tune the pink powerband. Contrary to popular opinion, this one can rip you a new asshole but looks and smells great while doing it. Not for the faint hearted. The red power band. Everyone wants it, almost no one can handle it. The fear and exhileration of the red two stroke powerband is hard to describe, and has been best presented through seriously shitty memes over the years. The average human isn't designed to cope, and short term injuries include having body parts torn off under acceleration. And if you thought excessive masturation made you blind, wait till you try a two stroke 500. The only good thing is eventually you will be able to reach for things on the top shelf. the red power band is so dangerous that only the most dodgy retailers will stock it. And ads like this will try to manipulate you too. Time to grow a sack and fill it with some gonads, Nancy. Give me a break. The powerband of diesel engines in cars and small trucks may develop maximum torque below 2,000 RPM with the power peak below 5,000 RPM. Due to increasing vibration and heat, an external RPM limitation may also be installed. Power is the product of torque multiplied by speed of rotation, so peak power is produced in the upper speed range where there's both high torque and high RPM. In typical combustion engines found in vehicles, the torque is low at idling speed, reaches a maximal value between 1,500 and 6,500 RPM, and then falls more or less sharply toward the redline. Below the RPM of maximal torque, the compression is not ideal. Above this speed several factors start to limit the torque, such as growing friction, the required time for closing the valves and combustion, and insufficient intake flow. And finally how to tune the yellow powerband. Weak and floppy, it's great for KTM riders, those who just give a shit and older riders like me who should have given up a long time ago. It's my personal favourite two stroke power band because I can't even keep the bike upright at walking speed. So the yellow powerband means I rarely get out of first gear and achieve a speed where I could actually hurt myself. Perfect. Many thanks to the Traction eRag research team. They have no idea what they are doing, but the white lab coats give our vids an undeserved credibility. That's enough silliness. Now it's back to riding with a pile of random moments from recent rides. As always thanks for your support everyone! That's all folks, how to tune your powerband!
