http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com http://tractionerag.com Flying into Canada is incredibly scenic as we fly over the coastal mountain ranges. Thankfully we aren't riding these mothers today. It's the smaller mountains around Kamloops which still provide plenty of elevation changes, just check out the GPS file of today's ride. Today we will be finding out why Kamloops enduro is one of the dirt riding meccas of the world. Kamloops dirt riding... endless single track for miles around, scenic views, climbs, easy fire trails. This is day five on the infamous Outlaw Run, an event organised by the reprobates at Traction eRag. Everyone is wearing their Outlaw Run jersey, specially designed to be bullet resistant and increase our chances of successfully surviving the ride with just flesh wounds for Canada dirt riding. That is Cecile up ahead, a Traction eRag volunteer who takes stunning photos on each ride. She has so much camera gear in that backpack she looks like an astronaut. A very talented rider, she was Canada's female downhill mountain bike champion years ago. Day five is the final day and we've saved the longest toughest day for last. We will be out on the track for close to eight hours and the majority will be single track. So while the difficulty of Kamloops enduro isn't that high, the focus needed for single track means there will be a lot of fatigue and mistakes toward the end of the day. There are two other groups doing easier tracks over a shorter distance. I have unwisely decided to go with the diehard group. There are a few technical sections to keep things interesting, and here's the first one. Recent rain for this Kamloops dirt riding has turned quite a few of the tracks into clay. It can be tough getting enough run up for this climb, especially when fallen riders are in the way. I go ahead to see if I can help out with this Canada enduro. But really I'm more interested in filming the carnage. The clay isn't too slippery, so weighting the rear wheel and careful throttle control will get the bikes up for Kamloops enduro. It's easy to get thrown off by the tree roots. Great leg paddling here. Just gently touching the ground with the boots to keep balance, but keeping full weight on that rear wheel. These are incredible tracks. And what really blows my mind is how many they are. An astounding 89% of Canada is crown land. Now some of that will be national parks or indigenous land, but otherwise there is the potential for endless dirt riding across large sections of Canada. We are in British Columbia, check out how much green there is on this map! We think we are lucky in Australia. See the green bits for the state of New South Wales? A lot of this isn't open to dirt riders but that still leaves massive amounts of accessible tracks. But Canada enduro is whole new level. I am talking a bit less in this video, just keep a good mix for supporters who like the occasional quieter video. Hope you are enjoying the music! It's always great watching other riders. Different riding styles, attitudes, and techniques. Who stands most of the time? Who sits every chance they get? As a rough rule of thumb, dirt riders tend to stand more as they get more experienced. But then when fatigue hits, even the best riders will start to sit more to conserver energy. It is not always clear when it's best to stand and sit, but we have done a training vid on this to at least give some broad guidelines. This is classic Kamloops dirt riding! Our guy is just bopping along but then suddenly hears my bike and gasses it. This always leaves me in a dilemma. If I am in the mood, it's always fun to try and stay with them. But then the problem is does he actually dislike having guys on his rear fender? Or just the guy in front enjoy mixing it up a bit? I try to read their body language and see if they seem to be enjoying a chase through the forest, and if they are riding within their limits. If they keep turning their head around I assume they actually want to increase the distance and I'll back off. Ditto if they start to look very sketchy on the bike, I would hate to see them plough into a tree. It's been a huge day, I'm actually looking forward to day off the bikes tomorrow. The fatigue is setting in and I did wind up making a basic mistake in the final 10 minutes and landed with a thud, can't seem to find the footage though. But all's well that ends well. And it's been a privilege to ride this brilliant single track in Kamloops, Canada's dirt bike mecca. Let us know if we used your music but forgot to credit you.
